Three arrested for old man's murder in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS): Three people, including a juvenile, were held for the Nov 15 murder of a 70-year-old man in Delhi's Shivaji Enclave.

The police Tuesday arrested Daljeet Singh, 48, and Praveen Yadav, 23, both residents of west Delhi's Vishnu Garden, and a juvenile.

The three eliminated Harinder Jit Singh, staying alone in his flat for the past six years, for blackmailing a woman with whom Daljeet was having an affair, police said Wednesday.

According to Daljeet, the senior citizen made an obscene video of one of his female friends and was blackmailing her for long. Fed up, the woman asked Daljeet to retrieve the video clip.

"She complained to him (Daljeet) who then hired Yadav and the juvenile for the job," said a police officer.

The three became greedy after learning from the woman that Harinder had sold a flat. They planned to loot the money besides getting hold of the clip.

On the day of the incident, the accused had a friendly entry into the victim's house as Daljeet was known to Harinder. After the murder, they made off with cash, a mobile phone, a camera and other valuables.

The arrests came following police's interrogation of people living in the area that helped them zero in on Yadav. His arrest led the police to Daljeet and the juvenile.
