Delhi Congress MLA claims Rs.1 cr medical reimbursement

New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS): Delhi Congress legislator Vipin Sharma, 35, has claimed Rs.1.03 crore as medical reimbursement allocated to lawmakers in the capital, a reply to a Right to Information query said.

This is the highest reimbursement claimed among the 43 MLAs whose details for medical expenses were furnished through an RTI reply.

The Delhi assembly has 70 MLAs.

The reimbursements are from 2008 till Oct 2013, said Subhash Agarwal, an RTI activist.

Sharma is followed by Independent MLA Bharat Singh who ran up medical bills of Rs.25 lakh.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA H.S. Balli, who recently joined the Congress, claimed Rs.17 lakh for his medical expenses.

Delhi lawmakers are entitled to free medical treatment or reimbursement and free accommodation in government-run hospitals.

They might be referred to hospitals empanelled or declared as such in accordance with the government rules.

His discharge summary: Had enlargement in a few places. Suffered from multiple fractures .Therefore the number of bones in his body also increased.Altogether he was treated for 206 into 3= 618 bones.206 bones are there in a normal person.
Skilled weavers from Rajasthan and nearby Haryana also assisted specialist Orthos to put the bones
    back to their normal number.
    Hence 1.03 crores was spent.....

The RTI Activist must demand and publicise the ailments that this MLA suffered from and the hospitals he went to and each of the hospital bills that he presented to get reimbursement.By the way, having made such a colossal bill, did the Delhi Govt have this covered through a Mediclaim policy- if so the odds are that it was one of the Nationalised General Insurance companies who have spineless officials not willing to challenge bogus bills.I look forward to the follow up on this.

First of all I congratulate Congress for bringing the RTI to the public to know whoever be what is going on in the Government.

Secondly This M.L.A.'s case should be verified to know what is the nature of his sickness to claim large amounts of money

Thirdly, if he has deceived the punishment must be to refund from his pocket 4 times more than the claimed.
Even if he pays he must be disqualified from entering/joining to any party.
