Modi to address rally in Punjab's Jagraon town

Chandigarh, Nov 28 (IANS): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will address a rally in Punjab's Jagraon town Dec 21, an Akali Dal leader said Thursday.

The rally will be organised jointly by the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Akali Dal spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said that the rally, which was earlier to be held in Moga town, will now be held at the Sugar Mill ground in Jagraon, 150 km from here.

"This was decided in a high-level meeting held in Delhi and presided over by the Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma and other leaders of both parties," he said.

The rally will be called 'Fateh (victory) Rally'. Besides Modi, it will be addressed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and other leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Akali Dal is a significant member of the NDA and has fully endorsed the announcement of Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

The Akali Dal-BJP alliance government has been in power in Punjab since 2007.

Cheema said that lakhs of people were expected to attend the rally.
