Bantwal, Apr 16 (Sunday, 7-30 pm): A group of about 20 persons tried to attack the BCI prayer hall at Bantaguri in Modankap near here on Sunday afternoon around 1-30 pm.

As they did not succeed in ransacking the premises, they are said to have heavily damaged a Maruti 800 car bearing registration CKO 3959 parked outside.

The details of the assailants are not known.

The police sources said the prayer hall belonged to the New Life group and there were accusations of conversion activities against them. The attack was made by some fundamentalist group, said the sources.

 

Enquiries in the area revealed that the prayer house activities did not have locals' support and most of the activities being run by people from Mangalore, said a police personnel on condition of anonymity.
