Infosys to hire more techies in Australia

Bangalore, Dec 2 (IANS): Indian IT bellwether Infosys Ltd plans to hire 85 new techies in Australia's New South Wales state in the ensuing fiscal to keep up with its client demand.

"To keep pace with 500 percent business growth in past five years in New South Wales, we have opened a new office in Sydney, which has 140 seat capacity to accommodate new hiring and specialists visiting to Australia for short-term projects," the company said in a statement here Monday.

The global software major's subsidiary has 2,600 software engineers based across Australia and New Zealand.

"As our third largest market, we are seeing healthy growth across the region. The NSW financial services and communications work is driving a lot of our hiring," Infosys regional head Jackie Korhonen said in the statement from Sydney.

Infosys co-founder and chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy and New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell were present on the occasion.

"The growth of Infosys in Sydney reinforces that India is a key priority in our international engagement. Companies like Infosys are helping grow our knowledge economy through investment and partnerships," O'Farrell noted.
