Mangalore, Apr 19: The ugly world of crime against girls has raised its nasty head once again, for the fourth time in a span of just two months, as yet another girl of 16 years fell victim to physical abuse.

A student of standard 10 was abused and threatened by her neighbour.

It happened in Kumpala, near Someshwar, Ullal. The accused is a salesman, by name Dhanush, aged 19 years. Being neighbours, they were well acquainted, but it was not until September 4, 2005 that he began his advances towards the girl. That fatal day, he physically abused and threatened her, and thereafter, he regularly repeated his shameful acts.

In course of time he assured her that they would marry, and coaxed her to go with him to a hill, where she was abused even more. From the day the incident occurred he has abused her as many as five times until he realised that she was pregnant.

Her already ruined life was further shattered when it was found that he had made her pregnant. He refused to marry her, and since then, has been absconding.

The helpless, hapless girl has registered a case with the Ullal police.

What good this will do, if at all, only time can tell. Meanwhile, one more life is ruined, and one more blemish is added to the safety of girls in our district.
