Gurgaon, Dec 3 (IANS): Traffic policemen here in Haryana will hold morning prayers in a bid to boost the morale of men on duty, while a top police official will personally greet them on their birthdays, an official said Tuesday.

Delhi's National Academy for Training and Research in Social Security was consulted over this new initiative of Gurgaon police.

"We are going to start morning prayers like in schools and armed forces," Joint Commissioner of Police Bharti Arora told IANS.

"All 60 zonal officers (ZOs) will daily hold morning prayers of officials working under them. After the prayer, they will assess their work," Arora said.

This will be done in 10 minutes from 7.30-7.40 a.m. The ZOs will send a daily report to the Gurgaon traffic police head office.

"We are taking up this new initiative to boost and cheer up our force. We have shortlisted the names of our jawans and officers. They will be greeted on the spot on their birthdays," Arora added.

Bouquets and cards will be presented to them.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Ratanpal, posted at Rao Mahabir Singh Chowk here, will be the first man on duty to be greeted on his birthday Dec 4.

A team of senior police officers, headed by Arora, will greet Ratanpal.

"To manage and control traffic is not an easy job in Gurgaon. Our efforts will certainly encourage our men to perform their duties better," Arora added.

A total of 367 policemen (17 women), including two assistant commissioners of police, seven inspectors, 60 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspector are on duty in Gurgaon.
