BJP scores 4-0, Congress crushed, remarkable debut for AAP

Updated

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS): In a "semi-final" verdict ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP Sunday retained Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, snatched Rajasthan from the Congress but was denied a clear win in Delhi by the debutant Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) spectacular showing.

So humiliating was the Congress rout in three places -- in Chhattisgarh alone it put up a fight -- that a sombre looking Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that the outcome "calls for deep introspection".

"We have to understand to look at the many reasons for this defeat," she said, as leader after leader, looking despondent, sought to argue that the results were no reflection of the national mood.

The victorious Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disagreed.

BJP MP Smriti Irani said the anti-Congress wave betrayed the popular mood against the party's top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

"This vote is not only due to bad policies, corruption and inflation but also against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi," she said.

The BJP's best showing came in Rajasthan, where it bounced back to power after five years, sweeping a record 162 seats in the 200-member house and leaving the Congress limping with only 21 seats.

It was the worst result for Congress in Rajasthan, far less than the 41 it won in the post-Emergency 1977 election.

In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan led the BJP to a facile third victory. The party won 166 seats in the 230-member assembly, up from the 143 it won in 2008.

In contrast, the Congress tally slumped from 71 to 57.

The BJP huffed and puffed before snatching victory from a fighting Congress in Chhattisgarh, with Chief Minister Raman Singh claiming victory after eight hours of nail-biting suspense.

The BJP ended up with 49 of the 90 seats -- one less than last time. The Congress settled for 39 -- one more than in 2008.

The national capital threw up the most stunning verdict, ending 15 years of Congress rule and leaving it punctured with just eight seats in the 70-member legislature.

The BJP finished with 31 seats, five short of a simple majority, thanks to a tsunami of Arvind Kejriwal's one-year-old AAP.

Kejriwal earned the grudging admiration of even his foes as his party, born out of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement, won a solid 28 seats, triggering frenzied celebrations.

The Ramon Magsaysay award winner said the AAP would play the role of "a constructive opposition". He added that the AAP's showing marked the start of "honest politics" in India. "Ours is a historic win."

Kejriwal himself defeated Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency. A humiliated Dikshit resigned, and Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung dissolved the outgoing house.

Pundits and political parties debated the significance of the electoral verdict vis-a-vis the coming Lok Sabha battle - at a time when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government is battling multiple problems that include rising food prices, corruption charges and political mismanagement.

In a public admission rare among politicians, Sonia Gandhi said "many people were obviously unhappy (with the Congress)".

BJP president Rajnath Singh said part credit for the result should go to Narendra Modi, the Gujarat chief minister who has injected new life into the party -- which looked sagging only a year ago -- since he was named its prime ministerial candidate in September.

"BJP got the affection of people because of the popularity of its chief ministerial candidates and our prime ministerial candidate," he said.

Despite the all-round losses, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi -- who was pitted against Modi in the election campaign -- put up a brave face.

He said the Congress would learn from its defeat and vowed to "give you a party you will be proud of".

"The Congress has the ability to stand up to the expectations of the people," Gandhi said.

Added Sonia Gandhi: "We will introspect seriously and take all necessary action... We will rectify our mistakes."

Mr. Abdul Khader, I agree with you. Selfish leaders in view to satisfy few people will take foolish decision and the victims will be poor civilians. Neither the leader nor his family members will face no danger due to security and protection provided to them from tax payers money. Our poor soldiers will sacrifice their lives and their sacrifice goes un noticed, but, hopeless Politicians' statures are erected and honored during their lavish life and even after their death. Pakistan is almost dead and their leaders are senseless. If we wage a war against a dead nation, it will be a disaster for both sides. War is not a bed of flower, but full of graves. Jai Hind.

You are thinking Christians are voting congress because Sonia is Christian,
Christians are peace lovers, mostly people hoped and wanted peace
People trusted and waited in one way, sometime we need to change the roads or ways to move forward.
It is nice in changes. No one is perfect in the world.lets wait watch and see.
Hope everything will go well they don’t vanish peoples wills, dreams. ( I am not supporter in any party) May God bring peace and unity in our nation with all religions
We don't want attacks. We all want peace. May God grant us our desire. It is nice people educated and looking forward good people to lead.

The surprising & welcome change in this election is from AAP & must salute the courage of Mr. Arvind who contested against Sheila. From nowhere he built up his party with just opposing corruption in politics & people accepted him. This may change the scenario of future of politics which was till now being fought based on just Netas & parties who hardly feel the problems of general public & just forget the intention of winning an election

    Key Takeouts from Mandate 2013..

*) A Man who threw Shoes at our FM Chiddu, secures 35000 votes and win against Congress, Which means nation and the public will reward any person who throw Shoes at Dongi Congressmen... They are happy that someone else is doing the duty on-behalf of them..

*)3 times CM, Sheila loses by more than 25000 votes against the first timer, means People ready to accept anyone other than Culprit and Careless CM

*)In Rajastan Congress could not win even 25 seats out of 200, clearly indicates the nation wants to BOOTOUT this Dongi congress.

*) Congress which ruled for 15 years in Delhi pushed to 3rd spot, that too with mere Single Digit When their own govt is in the Center, Means about 90% of voters hate Congress..

*) All the 4 states witnessed record polling ever, means more and more young and educated class caste their vote literally means they hate congress at the core and BOOT OUT congress from the entire nation..

*) When a person threw Shoe at FM, next day Sensex gained 500 points and interestingly after loosing 4-0, Today Market opened Gap up by 400 points, means Even Corporate world Hates CONGRESS....

*) 12 districts in Rajastan where Muslim's vote decides the fate of the candidates, all the 12 seats won by BJP, means Congress no longer can play a Minority vote bank...

*) If you cannot win even after announcing Populist schemes such as Food security bill, Land bill, MNEREGA, means People of the nation will not accept any schemes which affects the Country's economy..

PERFECT TIME FOR CONRESS MUKHTH BHARATH.....

People were fed up with continuous fooling by congress leadership. Leadership was completely idle and was reduced to pathetic level.Prime Minister has become totally stagnant. All the worse vote catching policies which were not introduced for four and half years were now introduced at the fag end of 5 years in power for the sole purpose of catching votes of common man. The government has completely failed in foreign policies.India even couldn't convince a insignificback country in Africa to bring back a sailor to attend his tiny sons funeral. All failures . Unlimited corruption has mounting day by day. Sonia still hasn't answered the public regdg her sonin laws involvement in several scandals. Its not Modis victor its utter failure of congress . Fitting lesson to a party who took the common people for a ride.Let Sonia and Rahul take this responsibility and reply .

Mr.Maller,Karnataka BJP was the most corrupt govt rather tha non achiever.People taught a lesson to it in the hope of better ruling. But Siddu govt is not only a non achiever but a DEAD HORSE and direction less too.It harps only on how to appease the minorities thought elected through votes from the majority community. It has no concern for people and no constitutional responsibilities. Results of the four states is a trend setter for next LS election in 2014.People are same but govt changes, politicians fail to understand/respond voters aspirations/expectations.Modi is the aspiration of the same people who taught a lesson to BJP Karnataka, elected BJP in four states now.
Congress to has good youg leaders but its main problem is does not give due recognition Bharatheeyatha. If it sheds its anti Hindu stance, keeps away people like Sibbal,Manish Tewari,Sanjay Zha,Renuka Chowdhry,Diggy,Oscar etc., it can come up again.

Cutting across the party lines, we must appreciate how vibrant our democracy is
Achievers (MP and Chatisgarh CMs) are rewarded
Non achiever (Rajastan CM) is punished
Indifferent (Delhi CM) towards common man is severely punished.
Man speaking common man's language (Kejriwal) is rewarded.
Man promising some thing (Modi) is rewarded
Men without any direction (Rahul, MMS) are punished.

A while ago - non achiever (Karnataka BJP) was punished.

Let us accept the fact that people henceforth will judge you by your ability to deliver rather than rheotics.

The writing on the wall is clear. Only a fool cannot see it. The UPA government will be swept out of power in the April/May 2014 elections. A very strong anti-incumbency wave, nay wind, is blowing across the nation. It threatens to become a storm in the coming months. The country wants a decisive leadership that is seen as performing. Narendra Modi, in spite of his poor communal record, is seen as a performer. This is why large sections of the electorate are willing to put their faith in him and give him a chance.if BJP has stain of Ghodra masacare ,then Congress has sikh masacare and babri masjid demolition. its the misconception of muslims that congress/muslim league or KFD or SDPI is their savior.

However one should also consider this..he was newly elected CM then and fighting against then strongman of Gujrath BJP strong man Keshubhai Patel...may be he wanted to please Core Sangh Parivar groups for political survival...

There is a saying in kannada "Kallana Kaige Keeli"...if you give key to the thief he is unlikely to steam...in his own interest...that's why there are no new communal riots after Godhra....

Also I wont say Modi as non-corrupt because of political compulsions....however much less Corrupt than Congress...

I think Muslims should give up their old hostility towards Modi and give him a second chance...Modi in return should follow "Rajadharma"....

Dear Salma, there is nothing like Minority or Majority in India rather it’s people mentality to feel like Minority or Majority and few of our Leaders made us feel that way. We worship our beloved GOD in different name and method that’s called religion or art of living or faith. Instead you call yourselves as Indian Muslims or Indian Christians and start walking on the same road one which followed by the Majority and get down to work of lifeline and now you can see the beautiful India flourishing everywhere with the smell of blossom. As long as we keep our brand image of religion at home, we foresee no problem for anyone. Today we are in such a position that we doubt each other without any reason by giving some examples of past things. Society needs changes and such changes make differences too

Thru muscle power, money power, CBI power congress is ruling in center. Otherwise they would have come to street 2-3 years back.

BJP will get majority in Delhi. Kejriwal will be Opp leader. Sheela Dixit will be trained under HR Bharadwaj in Bangalore and will be made as governor of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to play the game of spoilsport. This is what nervous congress can do ultimately.

Hope in governing also AAP as opposition will give tough time to BJP to prevent corruption and mis management. It is tough time ahead for BJP. May be good for people of Delhi. Christians in Mangalore never voted for BJP enmass, only few enlightened nationalists voted for Bhat.It is Hindu votes that decides any election.Hindus this time voted against BJP in Karnataka for bad governence which is reversible.Outcome of 2014 LS election will be a big shock for Congress.Christians specially vote for Congress because the close circle of Sonia are christians.Christians support their people against all ods.Added there is always a fatwah by Priests in church to vote for Congress.Oscar Fernandes a close associate of Sonia is a Laison officer in the country for the party. He works more towards Sonia group rather than his cconstituency/home dist/state.This is the truth.Favours only christians to top posts in PSU etc., by virtue of his association. This tendency is not new for now it is there since pre independence period.
The best and only leader of exception/great patriot is Sri George Fernandes an arch anti congressman whom majority Christians does not like.

Wilson you are completly wrong that christians are blindly voting for Congrees. Looks it below:
    1. then conress CM -SM Krishna: simply cancelled the good friday as public holiday, then then next election BJP got most of the Mangapore-Udupi MLA seats within thin majority. that is wehre christains voted for BJP to get rid of congress non development and also anger against Good Friday holiday issue.
    2. BJP formed the govt in State and they knew that most of M'Lore-Udupi seats with thin majority with help of Christians anti congress wave, here MODI came into picture and on his first advice to then CM BSY he suggested him to go for Hindutva policties, and that is the exact down fall of BSY as well as BJP.
    3. next recent elections, you can see the results again it went into favour of congress where Christians have voted again for Congress since BJP not gave them alternative !!
one simple example look at the number of votes of Kaup constituency where Vinay Kumar Soreke won.
Days are gone that christains will vote blindly, they need development with peace !!
I can say proudly that todays Christains dont take any instructions from any leaders or policical affilications like in other community !!

If you or any other polictical party think that christains will vote blindly that will be foolish thought.
christains voters as most edcucated then others !!

Congress and Congress followers never go into a coma anytime.
They are graceful in their defeat too unlike some other lesser party\ies. Change is always required to break the monotony and to infuse fresh vigour in the Party. That is what going to happen as it happened in Karnataka. Nothing to be dejected at all.

I'll wait for the good things to happen in those States where Congress is displaced. Because so much is promised which is like a fairy tale of development.
But Congress will be remembered by in a shortest period of time after the new Government takes over the State Machinery who has fooled people during their run for the top place. Sometimes one can fool people but not all the time.
So Congress is taking it as "one of those times" and will bounce back with vigour and better strategy for improvement of the said states.

In a way RSS\BJP have fooled majority part of the people with borrowed pictures of development from USA States (their usual strategy to fool people, PROs also borrowed from States and more or less everything borrowed - Pay back time will be difficult).

With all the above, when finally winners are d, I wish them well and hope the people of those States will be benefited from the elected Government.

One thing is clear from the recent elections People of India are really frustrated with the CORRUPTION. The game changes is not siddu or modi it was corruption and sure in future if you give good governance people of India will be behind you whether you are AAP, BJP or congress.

This is called ballot power and peoples voice..people are fedup with misgovernance and corruption at all levels. This is a lesson for congress and other political parties. People dont need mandir or masjid but need security, good governance, employment opportunities...AAP is hero and surely will perform better in lokasabha elections...I salure Mr Kejriwal who is hope of young Indians and poor and midclass Indians...Congrats to winners and losers should leave politics and take retirement. Rahul Gandhi is unfit to lead congress. May be Priyankas time has come to lead.

If BJP fights the election on religious plank, surely it would have lost..should fight the election on development, jobs etc and not on masjid and mandir or hinutva...

    shahnawaz - bannaje..

After all kejriwal itself is part and parcel of BJP lobby. To learn politics you are still young in this game. How did Laloo Yadav removed from Bihar. It's again plan of BJP seeking help of Ram Vilas Paswan inducted first into RJD and than divide it. How did communist sweeped from Kolkata it's again planned by both congress and BJP..rooted communist from power. Next same thing will happen in Kerala. Chances are more in Delhi BJP will give chance for AAP to form the Goverment or re-election. Last trump card left for congress is none other than priyanka...but due to vadra it won't make any more magic.

Congress already lost in all spheres. Religious leaders like Hamid Ansari/Madani are favouring Modiji. After all it's charisma of Modiji worked-out. Undoubtedly omar abdulla also favouring modiji to find solution on kashmir. Let now 'puthhu' more on depend upon horlicks/bournivita/maltova/boost to regain lost power..Jai Ho..

    Loha Lohe ko Kaatha Hai..
Humnhe Koi Ghalthi Nahi Ki Modiji Ko Prime Ministerial Candidature choone mein..
    Bravo Rajnathji..credit goes to you..

While in Rajasthan, MP and mostly in Chattisghad BJP will form the Govt easily, Delhi will become a playground for political drama. Interesting to see how Kejriwal plays it. straight forward or otherwise? Possibilities:
    1. BJP forms Govt with AAP support
    2. AAP forms Govt with BJP support
    3. AAP forms Govt with Cong support
    4. BJP forms Govt with Cong support (this is least possibility looking at history but nothing can be predicted)
    5. Cong forms with AAP support (Probably no)
    6. Cong forms with BJP support (probably no)
    7. BJP forms on its own
    8. AAP forms on its own
    WHich one is most likely?

Delhi..AAP not supporting any party. So, it's BJP-Congress combine show unless BJP gets majority. I expect hung parliament in Delhi. If AAP joins hands with any other party, then it will lose the credibility. Drub for Congress was expected in Rajasthan and Delhi due to poor governance. MP no chance for Congress as current CM is doing well there. Chattisgarh is only hope for Congress that too with great difficulty. But I strongly feel Raman Singh will form government in Chattisgarh. So 4-0 loss for Congress. Good to see rise of AAP. I am sure they are going to play crucial role in national politics as well.

In case no party gets majority in Delhi and BJP leads the tally, then I do not see anything wrong in AAP supporting BJP even though not as part of the govt (Even if they decide to sit in opposition, it does not mean that they should not vote for the leading party during confidence motion). If they do it without involving any horse trading , I think they will be setting new example of st. forwardness and that will only increase their reputation.

It is the time of introspection for congress.

Never take the people of India for granted. Stop looting.. Protect our country.

Come out of family politics. Congress never produced any good leader except Gandhi Family Member. Look at BJP, a CM is termed as PM candidate. Can this happen in congress? Never... Manmohan Singh is their Prime Minister. But he is not their leader. Come on guys... Indians are getting educated. Family politics never going to work. You need to change with time.

The situation in congress is such that if they win in any election credit goes to Sonia/Rahul if they lose, the responsibility goes to MMS, local leaders, in charge leaders etc.

In Karnataka congress has to really thank Yeddy first which splitted the votes between BJP and KJP. Please note that in most of the places congress won only due to the split of votes between BJP and KJP and not on its own.
