BJP government in all four states, says Rajnath

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form governments in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, party president Rajnath Singh said Sunday.

Talking to media persons after a BJP parliamentary board meeting here, Rajnath Singh said the party gained from popularity of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and also that of the chief ministerial candidates. Modi also attended the board meeting.

"BJP got affection of people because of popularity of its chief ministerial candidates and our prime ministerial candidate," Rajnath Singh said.

Asked if the party failed to get absolute majority in Delhi due to delay in declaration of its chief ministerial candidate, Rajnath Singh did not give a direct reply.

"The decision is taken at an appropriate time. In Delhi also... it is part of the strategy," he said.

He said Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be the party's chief minister in Madhya Pradesh where the party is on course to a two-thirds majority.

The BJP is also coasting to victory in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and is likely to emerge the single largest party in Delhi.

Rajnath Singh announced central observers who will attend meetings of newly elected BJP legislators in the four states.

He said Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy will attend the meeting of legislators in Madhya Pradesh; Arun Jaitley and Kaptan Singh Solanki in Rajasthan; Nitin Gadkari and Thawar Chand Gehlot in Delhi; and M. Venkaiah Naidu, J.P. Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan in Chhattisgarh.
