Panaji, Apr 23: Entry to the discotheques would take a toll on your pocket in Goa.

But to avoid this spending, there is another trick which is being played by the visitors in this tourist state. Take a girl along with you and entry for couples is free.
As "entry for couples free" signboards are flashed outside popular discos here, the young and happening minds have a unique idea to have free access and admittance to these hotspots. Just take a bar girl with you. And she becomes your 'green card'.

With the dance bar issue lingering in Maharashtra, the dance bar girls have opted out for a different vocation here in Goa. Available at unofficially notified pick-up points, they are frequently taken along by young visitors to make their entry free of cost in discos.

Though the dance bar girls charge for their "pick-up", the youngsters find a better company to rock with.

"There are 600 dance bar girls in Goa. They are being picked up to have entry into discos too," admits Varsha Kale, honorary president, Bharatiya Bar Girls Union (BBGU).

Though the Maharashtra government has stopped dance bars, few private entrepreneurs in the state have began something called "floor dance shows." Obviously, dance bar girls are preferred for these shows which go on till late night in hotels dotting the beach belt.

"Dance Bar girls also make performance during the private shows. They are forced to do such shows to eke out a living," contends Kale.

While the police officials prefer not to talk about the dance bar girls' presence in the state, coastal belts are abuzz with their presence every evening. Separate pick-up points have spurred in Baga, Calangute and Candolim belt where these girls wait for their customers.

"Some are even forced to sell their skin. They never wanted to go into prostitution but are forced into it by circumstances," Kale stated.

Goa police who had initially cracked down heavily on the dance bar girls, have now stopped their checks. "We can act only when there are specific complaints. We just cant catch any girl," stated superintendent of police (north) D K Sawant.

The police had initially caught and sent back the bar girls by trains. But no check was kept on their re-emergence in the state.

"No girl wants to stay in Goa. They will come back once dance bars re-start," Kale stated. According to her, all the girls are aware about the High Court order and are in constant touch with Mumbai and Bangalore. Once, the dance bars start, they will happily come back.
