Pakistan Government submits petition for Musharraf treason trial


Islamabad, Dec 12 (IANS): The government here has formally requested a special court to initiate treason proceedings against former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf.

Interior Secretary Shahid Khan submitted the petition which called for proceedings against Musharraf under the 1973 high treason act, Geo TV reported Thursday.

The former Pakistan army chief, who had taken over as the country's president after a bloodless coup, had suspended the constitution and imposed emergency in the country, according to the petition.

A three-member special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab will initiate treason proceedings against Musharraf, according to the report.
