After BJP, now Congress trying to woo Sourav Ganguly?

Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS): Soon after the BJP offered former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly party ticket to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the West Bengal Congress unit chief too Sunday called on the cricketer at his residence here.

State Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya, however, described his meeting with Ganguly as a courtesy call, and refused to give it a political colour.

"The meeting does not carry any significant meaning, contrary to what is being reported by the media. What he will do is his decision. I have not given any kind of proposal (to him) regarding politics. It is a private meeting," he said.

However, political circles were agog with speculation that the Congress was keen to offer Ganguly a Rajya Sabha ticket, or candidacy for the Lok Sabha polls 2014.

The 41-year-old Ganguly Monday said he got a proposal from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but had not yet decided anything in the matter.

"Yes, I have received a proposal, but am yet to decide anything. It's a big decision, and not an easy one. I will have to sort out so many things," he said.

Incidentally, a day earlier the former opener asserted that he has declined the BJP's offer.

"I have declined it. I won't be contesting the elections," Ganguly said in Mumbai.

State BJP president Rahul Sinha Saturday said party general secretary Varun Gandhi, who is in charge of the party's affairs in West Bengal, during a meeting in Delhi made the offer to Ganguly to contest the Lok Sabha polls from a constituency of his choice.

West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress took a jibe at the Congress leader's meet with Ganguly, and said it eroded the cricketer's popularity.

"The Congress is now a spent force in the entire country, leave alone Bengal. I believe today's meeting has eroded Ganguly's popularity and appeal," state Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Asok Bhattacharya described the BJP and Congress's bid to woo Ganguly as a publicity gimmick.

"Sourav has told me that he is not interested in joining politics. Being a cricketer he wants to serve the game," said Bhattacharya, a minister during the erstwhile Left Front government and known for his proximity to the cricketer.

"These parties are just trying to encash his popularity, which is not right," he said, adding his party has no plans to approach the cricketer with an offer to join politics.

    Rightly said.

Change in Government is welcome for better and improved governance.
Congress has ruled so many years let us wait for BJP, AAP or another front. They are promising so many good things (all dreams) and we will come to know the reality only when they start ruling the Country and bringing overnight changes as they promise.

I am just defending the language Hindi. I hope you listen to Hindi songs (especially Kishordas old songs) which are so meaningful, sad, sentimental, crazy or entertaining. They make a big change in one feeling if you listen to them.

I am Indian by blood and attitude and not by language or faith.

Can he change India ? He can change India only when he enters active politics and guide..Mahatma Gandhi also made mistakes..He should have become Prime Minister, instead he made Nehru as PM ..now result is in front of you...

The next option is the BJP,because Sourav can handle Sports Ministry very well (no doubt, Modiji will offer him Sports Ministry)..
Lst option is Independent candidate..He can do his duty without anybody's interference.

Please remember always 'clean people' never enter politics.
Honest and Sincere people will not go for any compromise in there life. Best example is none other than Anna Hazare..will fight there cause alone without any support.
Is it not once MMS is sincere..but for sake of higher post landed in trouble..due to signing in all scams as a head of nation.

Best example is retired G R Khairnar, former deputy municipal commissioner of Mumbai who is called Demolition Man single handedly destroyed illegal buildings of Dawood Ibrahim. Many opposed..threatened life of khairnar and even transferred him to other place on advise of Sharad Pawar... still survived.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhoble carrying Hockey Stick go on attacking people where things gone wrong. It's business class people lodged complaint due to loss in there business..because people afraid to turn-up..

We need such people and are very rare. Everybody after name and fame. Jai Ho..

From its introduction in 5th standard I have been hating Hindi. Both writing and reading was difficult for me. I was forced to study that language till 10th. Learning Hindi did not ADD ANY VALUE TO MY LIFE. Even today I feel it is waste studying that language in Karnataka. Instead, a subject like COMPUTERS should be introduced in schools, which can help getting jobs.

Hindi is not our national language. But both Hindi and English are official languages of this country. For me Kannada is my national language and I am proud of that. My Tulu language proficiency is better than Hindi, though I haven't studied Tulu in school.

Karnataka Govt's all files are in Kannada and English. Central Govt's files are only in English. CM Siddu addresses Karnataka in Kannada. PM Singh addresses Indians in English. Where does your Hindi stand at national level? Hindi has remained important only in a few states.

English is required to earn our BREAD and BUTTER. With Hindi you can only enjoy watching BOLLYWOOD MOVIES.

Don't act like a frog in the well. Bangalore is not the only destination where Kannadiga's exist. If you go to Bombay, you definitely need Hindi to survive. Don't underestimate any language. For you it may not be important, but for others it may be important. The outside world is large Dinesha..It is not a waste if you learn additional language. If you are stranded in a place where only Hindi is being spoken, can you think of surviving there?

The outside world is large. That is why everyone needs to learn English. In 10 years street vendors in Mumbai will also speak english.

Learning additional language is a value I agree. But only those who require should learn it. Computers should be thought in schools in place of Hindi. Hindi should not be imposed on everyone. ENGLISH is a better COMMON LANGUAGE for Indians. We should not waste our time in learning too many languages. Instead we should learn about subjects which can add value to our lives.

If you want to learn what you want, then we need to look for such schools that teach what we want. In Bombay, it is compulsory to learn Marati. Is it a waste? If I study Kannada and then I migrate to Australia/Canada, is it a waste? There is no waste if you learn any language. If you want to stay in Mangalore or Bangalore, then why you should learn English as we can communicate in Kannada. Is it not a waste?

On one side you support a far right fundamentalist party and its divisive leader who speaks of nationhood, national language, Indian culture, fundamentalism etc etc and then you support a total western import which is the English language and you abuse and degrade your own national language. I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. Why don't you impart some of your recently acquired gyaan to your party and its misguided leaders. I would say that both the leaders and followers are misguided.
