95 percent voters have ID cards

New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS): Almost 95 percent of the voters in India have got their Electors Photo Identity Cards, Law and Justice Minister Kapil Sibal said Wednesday.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he cited "local opposition" to the cards as the reason for low coverage in states like Assam, Nagaland and Jammu and Kashmir.

He also said that the Election Commission was making efforts to achieve 100 percent coverage as soon as possible.
