Bihar acts against five officials for complacency

Patna, Dec 21 (IANS): Bihar has initiated action against five senior officials for complacency in implementation of welfare schemes, state Rural Development Minister Nitish Mishra said Saturday.

"We have initiated action against five deputy development commissioners (DDCs) for their failure to achieve the target of Indira Awas Yojna for 2013-14, non-completion of houses taken up earlier, and complacency in the execution of MNREGA," Mishra said.

The action was taken after the government found the charges levelled against them prima facie true, Mishra said.

"The government would not tolerate complacency and lack of transparency in the execution of schemes," he added.

The Comptroller and Auditor General in its latest report has indicted the state government for poor implementation of the Indira Awas Yojna and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in Bihar.
