Ghaziabad, Dec 21 (IANS): Meherban, a resident of Ashok Vihar Colony, is on the run after allegedly raping a woman in his neighbourhood in Ghaziabad. Police have registered a case and are searching for the culprit.
The incident occurred late Friday night in Loni town of Ghaziabad.
Police said they received a complaint from a resident of Laxmi Vihar Colony who said he was the uncle of the victim.
The complainant said one Meherban, 23, son of Rajuddin of Ashok Vihar Colony, barged into his brother's house in the late hours of Friday night. He raped his niece after finding her alone and then fled.
After the victim narrated the incident, her uncle went to the police station to lodge a complaint.
"We have registered a case. The victim has been sent for medical examination and hunt is on to nab the culprit," said Gorakh Nath Yadav, inspector in-charge of Loni police station.
