Military operations will increase terrorism: Imran Khan

Islamabad, Dec 21 (IANS): Pakistan cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said Saturday that military operations would lead to an increase in terrorism and militancy in the country.

Khan, who is the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said if the government wanted to launch an operation in North Waziristan it should take the people into confidence, Geo News reported.

According to Khan, women and children had become the targets of drone strikes and military action would increase the suffering of people in the tribal region.

Khan appealed to the Pakistani Taliban Dec 18 to participate in the peace talks with the government. He said peace in Pakistan was not possible until US drone attacks stopped.

The Pakistani Taliban has refused to talk to the government after a US drone strike killed its chief, Hakimullah Mehsud, in North Waziristan tribal region Nov 1.
