Modi's remarks over 2002 riots an image makeover strategy: Cong

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI): Congress today questioned the timing of Narendra Modi's expression of "pain" and "anguish" over 2002 Gujarat riots, accusing him of doing it as part of an "image makeover" before the Lok Sabha elections.

"This is just an attempt of an image makeover," party general secretary Ambika Soni told reporters here.

"I do not want to cast any aspersions...but the question does come up to my mind. 10-12 years is a long period in public life. There were moments when there was pressure on him to do so. But he never did it earlier. Why is he suddenly doing it just before Lok Sabha elections?

"Why after so many years, he has become so emotional not to leave any word in the dictionary to say all this?...Ask him why he did not express his pain and anguish earlier...It's a part of a strategy" before the elections, she said.

Soni was talking to the media after Congress President Sonia Gandhi hoisted the party flag at the AICC headquarters on the 128th Foundation Day of Indian National Congress.

In a 1,000-word blog containing his most detailed comments on the 2002 riots, Modi yesterday said that he felt "absolute emptiness" on witnessing such "inhumanity".

A day after a magistrate's court upheld a clean chit given to him by a Supreme Court-appointed probe panel in the massacre of 68 people in Gulberg Housing Society in Ahmadabad during the riots, Modi said he did not see the ruling as a personal victory or defeat.

Though she downplayed contentions of anti-Congress wave in the country, Soni said, "when people vote us out, we know we have to introspect why they did so.

She said whenever Congress weakens, the communal forces resurrects. "And whenever such forces raise their head, we rise to the occasion...We have learnt the lessons. Congress is borne out of struggle."

Supreme Court should intervene and take up the case of Gujarat communal riots of 2002.

The SIT had collaborated with communals.

The world knows Modi orchestrated killing of more than 2002 in the year 2002.

Moreover, the supreme court also should take up the case of atrocities against Christians orchestrated by Modi the murderer.

While the Congress party Govts at Center and States all over India are continuing with their pathetic Corrupt practices , Rahul Gandhi's outburst against corruption and Adarsh Scam is also "Image makeover Strategy".
Why Ambika Soni had forgotten this.

He did it after the court released him from any wrong doing. Has he done this earlier, congis would have projected this as an admission of guilt for which he is not at all responsible

Congress party did not born out of struggle. In fact the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi advised to wind up the Congress party which was born only to fight for Independence of the Country from the British rule along with other several unsung heroes. But no-one listened, though everyone in Congress party says that they adore Mahatma Gandhi. Just like Mr.Kejriwal distancing himself from the Anna Hazare agitation and formed a political party on the advice/directive from Mr.Anna Hazare, Congress party also should have followed the advice of the father of the nation. Then regarding image make over by Mr.N.Modi, the parties which are accusing him should introspect themselves what good they did to the sufferers at the massacre of thousands of people of the Sikh community during 1984 as an aftermath of the then PM mrs.Indira Gandhi's killing by her own Sikh security guards at her house/office path/way. It is reported in some quarters still the grievance of those next kith and kin of the massacred people have not been resolved.
