PMK to work for Social Democratic Front candidates' victory

Chennai, Jan 2 (IANS): Vanniar community-based party PMK, at its general council meeting here Thursday, resolved to work for the victory of the Social Democratic Front candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

According to the party, the front was formed in 2010 to follow the social democratic policies laid down by PMK founder S. Ramadoss. The front is a combination of different caste parties.

PMK leader Ramadoss had earlier announced that the party will not align with any of the two Dravidian parties - AIADMK and DMK - in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is wooing PMK (Paattali Makkal Katchi) to its fold to fight the general elections.

The PMK also passed a resolution condemning the central government for its failure to take action through the UN to secure Tamil Eelam for Sri Lankan Tamils.

The PMK also condemned the DMK party and the Tamil Nadu government for not pressuring the centre to take such an action.

The party passed resolutions condemning the central and the state government for their failure to control the raising prices, not being to free Indian fishermen from Lankan jails, and demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the quarrying of beach sand minerals and granite.
