Mangalore, May 11: "People are happy with my administration and the development programmes I have taken up. Why should I resign," asked Mayor K Ashraf.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Ashraf said, "It is true I had said that I would resign if no action was taken against pilferage of drinking water from the 18 MGD line dedicated to the city of Mangalore by the residents of Maripalla. I had taken a squad of plumbers and engineers along with the police to get the illegal connections disconnected. But after seeing protests from children, women and old people, I decided to return without carrying out the work."

Ashraf said he had complained to the Deputy Commissioner and elected representatives of the area.
