Fish merchant shot dead in Delhi's busy market

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): Unidentified bike-borne assailants shot dead a 30-year-old fish merchant in the crowded Ghazipur market in east Delhi, police said Monday.

Faizaan was shot Sunday night, when he had gone to buy a stock of fish. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed before medical help could be made available.

"After purchasing fish, he was to board his car and go home to Daryaganj in the old Delhi area, when some unidentified bike-borne assailants shot him and fled," a police officer said.

The victim's family alleged that the incident took place a few metres from Delhi Police barricades, but policemen did not react.

"The motive behind the murder was personal enmity. The assailants did not attempt to rob the victim," the police officer said.
