No arrest in Ranchi gangrape


Ranchi, Jan 14 (IANS): Police have not yet arrested anyone in the gang-rape of a minor in Ranchi Sunday, an officer said Tuesday.

According to police, the 16-year-old girl, accompanied by a male friend, was raped while she was returning from a temple situated in Ranchi's Kamre village Sunday. Around eight youth dragged her to a nearby bushes and raped after beating up her friend.

Later, the injured friend dropped at her home after which the family members informed the police.

Police started investigation Monday evening, but have not made any arrest as yet.

The victim's friend could not recognise any of the accused when police raided a hostel situated near the temple Monday.

"A police team has been constituted to nab the youths involved in the crime. We will soon arrest the accused persons" told a police official to IANS.
