Kerala to prepare tourist accommodation database

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (IANS): Kerala Tourism has invited all accommodation units in the state for a survey aimed at creating a database that can be accessed by visitors as well as tourism industry stakeholders.

The survey would cover hotels, home stays, houseboats and heritage buildings under the "Grahasthali" project, ayurveda centres, rest houses, guest houses and other establishments offering accommodation to tourists in Kerala.

It will be conducted by the department of economics and statistics Jan 15-Feb 28.

"We urge all tourism industry stakeholders to take part in this survey. Accommodation is a basic infrastructure required for tourism. We want to unify all information on this into a single directory that will be a valuable resource for everyone," Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar said Wednesday.

The information will be made available on the official Kerala Tourism website.

All participating establishments will be able to update data on the portal and use the information to generate reports.

The tourism department will be able to collect statistical and management information through the system and communicate with all establishments through email groups.

"The primary objective is to provide updated information to tourists and other stakeholders in the industry about the availability of tourism infrastructure in the state," said Tourism Secretary Suman Billa.
