Gurgaon farmers to get land compensation under new law

Gurgaon, Jan 16 (IANS): The Haryana government Thursday said farmers and land owners in several villages here will be compensated under a new law, after objections were raised by them regarding acquisition of their land under the old law.

P.C. Meena, administrator of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in Gurgaon, said the rights of land owners and farmers will be protected even if the notifications for land acquisition were issued under the old Land Acquisition Act, 1894 in November-December last year.

A new Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 came into force Jan 1.

"The land owners will be given compensation at the enhanced rates as per provisions of the new Land Acquisition Act," Meena said.

"The notifications issued in November and December will in no way jeopardise the interests of farmers and land owners since the compensation was to be announced after Jan 1," he said.

Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh had recently written to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on land acquisition proceedings, calling them malafide intent of the government and demanding cancellation of the notices with immediate effect.

Villagers from Badshapur, Farrukh Nagar, Basai, Nurpur, Akhlimpur, Mubarakpur, Hyatpur and Manesar, among others, objected to notices served to them.
