Mangalore, May 14 (Sunday, 5-00 am): The Dakshina Kannada district, known for its achievers in education and other fields, has suffered a heavy jolt, imagewise and otherwise.
While it had held the third position with 75.73 last year, it has crashed an ignominous 14th place in the percentage (72.31%) of passes in the SSLC results published on Saturday. Udupi district is at position 5.
Toppers in taluk: Sandeep (604 marks) and Snehit Nayak Sujir (603 marks) of Canara Boys' High School, Dongerkery and Srijana S Rao (603 marks) have topped the taluk rankings
Udupi toppers: Sharatchandra Holla, Christian High School, Udupi (603 marks - II place), Sandeep A Rao, MJC, Manipal, Ashik Rao, TA Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu (602 marks - III place), Deepa K G, Narayana Guru English Medium High School, Malpe and Pratiksha K N, Viveka English Medium High School, Kota ( 608 marks - I place)
Of the 329 high schools in the district, 152 have scored 80 - 100% passes, 111 schools 60 - 80% and 61 have registered 40 to 60%.
Eighteen schools have scored 100%. In all 1,104 students (425 boys and 679 girls) have passed with distinction. The saving grace for the district is that it stands third in distinction achievers.
