Kejriwal protest is anarchy: Tewari

New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS): Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari Monday termed the protest sit-in by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues as "constitutional anarchy" and "gimmickry".

Tewari, speaking on the sidelines of a function here, said Kejriwal's protest sit-in against alleged police inaction "is not going to work".

"It is constitutional anarchy... They're resorting to gimmickry," said Tewari on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's protest sit-in to demand suspension of police officials for disobeying the orders of two ministers.

"You may have got the mandate to govern and made tall claims... and you know you cannot deliver, so they are resorting to gimmickry," said the union minister.

Tewari voiced his concern about the "message" the vigilante-style action of Delhi ministers - Somnath Bharti and Rakhi Birla - was going to give to "obscurantist" people.

"I am worried about the message it is sending to obscurantist, reactionary and conservative males -- that they can resort to vigilantism if they don't like the way a woman dresses or the work she does with her life," said Tewari.

The AAP has alleged that policemen did not cooperate with Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti during his vigilante-style raid Wednesday night in south Delhi where he alleged that some African nationals were carrying on a "drug and sex racket".
