Protest to fulfil the statehood promise made to people: AAP

New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Monday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the party were protesting to fulfil the "statehood" promise made to Delhiites in the election manifesto.

"The party is only demanding for 'statehood' which we had promised to the people of Delhi, as it would help bring law and order under the purview of the Delhi government," said senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav.

Addressing a press conference, Yadav added: "This is an uncommon case that a chief minister of a state has to sit on protest demanding something as minor as taking action against police officials who fail to perform their duty."

The AAP also attacked the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party and said if they wanted real statehood, they should send their MLAs to join the protest with Kejriwal and the AAP volunteers.
