BJP moves HC against Kejriwal, Bharti poll expenses

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): A petition was filed Tuesday in the Delhi High Court by two BJP leaders seeking the cancellation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Law Minister Somnath Bharti's election last December for exceeding the expenditure limit for the polls.

BJP leaders Vijender Goyal and Aarti Mehra moved the court alleging that Kejriwal and Bharti exceeded their expenditure limits.

They requested the court to declare the elections as "null and void".

As per the Election Commission of India, every candidate can spend Rs.14 lakh on an assembly election. The BJP leaders alleged that Kejriwal and Bharti spent more than Rs.17 lakh during the elections, which were held Dec 4.
