Protect democratic, secular values, says Patnaik

Cuttack, Jan 26 (IANS): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday asked people to protect democratic and secular values.

"People have faith in democracy. They have become more aware of their rights. The accountability of the administration has increased," he said after unfurling the national flag here to mark the Republic Day.

"The faith of people in secular values has grown," he added, calling upon the people to safeguard these values.

Governor S.C. Jamir hoisted the tricolour at Bhubaneswar.

Although Maoists put up posters and banners at a few places in the southern districts asking people to boycott the celebrations, there was no untoward incident anywhere, police said.

The celebrations were peaceful in areas where Maoist are active such as Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada.
