Chinese troops greet Indian soldiers on Republic Day


Kolkata, Jan 27 (IANS): A Chinese army delegation wished Indian troops on the occasion of the 65th Republic Day at a meeting with their Indian counterparts at Nathu La, a defence release said Monday.

The seven-member People's Liberation Army delegation led by an officer equivalent to a brigadier took part in the special Border Personnel Meeting Sunday between the two nations. The meeting was followed by a cultural programme presented by both sides, the defence ministry release said.

Indian Army personnel under Trishakti Corps and its mountain divisions at the India-China border and nearby areas celebrated the day with enthusiasm and fervour.

At the Corps HQ in Sukna, all officers and soldiers paid tribute to the martyrs at the war memorial.

GOC Trishakti Corps, Lt. Gen. K.J. Singh laid a wreath on behalf of all soldiers of the corps.
