Panaji, May 18: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is planning to set up a "satellite campus" in the state.

Dr J Chandrasekhar, director of technical education of Goa, said IIT Bombay is eager to set up a satellite campus at the Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, about 25-km from Panaji.

"If the satellite campus is set up, it would be first of its kind in the country. IIT Bombay has already established such campuses in countries like Singapore," he said.

Chandrasekhar pointed out that IIT Bombay has been involved in  improving quality of education at the Goa Collge of Engineering since 2001.

He added that the satellite campus would result in exchange of faculties and exchange of students - albeit in a limited way. "The students would be able to visit IIT Bombay during summer time to complete their projects," he said.
