DCW chief to meet Delhi Lt.Governor

New Delhi, Jan 30 (IANS): Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha Singh will meet Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung here Thursday to assert her right to stay in office after the Aam Aadmi Party government said she would be replaced.

"I have been appointed a notification and nobody has right to ask for my resignation. I will present all my facts to the Lt. Governor as I will be meeting him today (Thursday)," Singh told a television channel.

The Delhi government has nominated Hindi novelist Maitreyi Pushpa as the panel's new chief.

"Why should I not be holding the post at DCW? I have done nothing wrong I have just been working to safeguard the rights of women and foreign nationals in India," added Singh.

The women's panel chief Wednesday accused AAP government of "harassing" her after she summoned Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti to explain his controversial campaign against an alleged prostitution racket.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: "Barkha Singh has fought election from the Congress party and if she is the chairperson at DCW she is not neutral and she is doing politics there."

"We want a neutral person and Maitryee Pushpa is a well known figure and her presence will increase the stature of DCW," Kejriwal added.
