Drugs valued at Rs.2.40 crore seized in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jan 31 (IANS): Authorities have seized 120,000 tablets of methamphetamine - illegally used as a stimulant - valued at Rs.2.40 crore from a house here, an official said Friday.

The drugs had been reportedly smuggled from Myanmar.

The drugs, weighing 14 kg, were seized from the house of a 46-year-old man Thursday night, a police spokesman told reporters.

The man told officers that he bought the contraband from people who smuggled various items from Myanmar.

Last week, three women were arrested here with 17.5 gm of heroin valued at Rs.5 lakh. They too said the contraband came from Myanmar.

Mizoram shares 722 km of unfenced border with Myanmar and Bangladesh.
