Another arrested in Delhi heist


New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS): With the arrest of another man for his involvement in the Rs.7.69-crore heist here, six people have been held so far while three suspects are absconding, police said Tuesday.

The latest to be arrested is Joginder alias Johny, who is around 25 years, and was arrested late Monday from Burari area of north Delhi, police said.

"He is the one who was driving the Wagon R that intercepted the Honda City (in which the money was being carried). Of the Rs.28 lakh that he got as his share of the loot, we've recovered Rs.26 lakh," a police officer said.

"He spent one lakh on his girlfriend and another on buying a motorcycle...we've seized the bike as well," added the officer.

According to police, three more accused in the case "who have been identified but are absconding".

Five people have been arrested so far and a juvenile, suspected to be the mastermind behind the heist, has been detained. Under the law, juveniles cannot be arrested but can only be detained.

A group of people robbed Rs.7.69 crore cash from businessman Rajesh Kalra near Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi and hijacked the car in which he was travelling with four other employees Jan 28.
