E-vouchers can check illegal mining: Jharkhand official

Ranchi, Feb 7 (IANS): Jharkhand Chief Secretary R.S Sharma said Friday that illegal mining could be checked by issuing e-vouchers to prevent exploation and mining by the same entity.

"The mineral lease and exploration were two different activities," the chief secretary said in a statement at a meeting of the Mines and Geology Department.

Mines Secretary Arun and other officials also attended the meeting.

The chief secretary emphasized on maintaining transparency in filing applications for mineral concessions.

He said that it should be compulsory for all applicants to file online applications and directed this process should be made mandatory within a month.

He said that electronic and not manual vouchers should be issued to the vehicles transporting major and minor minerals. This robust arrangement in the system will stop illegal mining of minerals, Sharma said.
