Lawyer denies consultation on Jan Lokpal bill

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP government had been told by lawyers that the Jan Lokpal bill didn't need the central government's nod, one of the lawyers involved in the matter Saturday said that he was not consulted about the bill.

"I was not consulted on the question of Jan Lokpal bill. But I was consulted on the validity of certain rules which require the prior approval of the Lt. governor before the bill is introduced in the house," lawyer K.N. Bhatt told Times Now TV channel.

The AAP government and the Congress Friday locked horns over the Jan Lokpal bill with Kejriwal saying that the central government's approval was not needed to get it passed in the Delhi assembly.

Kejriwal had also said that the AAP government had been told by former Punjab and Haryana High Court chief justice Mukul Mudgal and lawyers P.V. Kapur, K.N. Bhatt and Pinaki Misra that the bill didn't need the central government's nod.

Bhatt added that since more advocates were involved, the party might have put different questions to different lawyers.
