Made UPA unhappy on Ishrat probe, says CBI chief

New Delhi, Feb 8 (PTI): A controversy has erupted over the reported remarks of CBI chief Ranjit Sinha that the UPA government would have been happy if BJP leader Amit Shah was named as accused in Ishrat Jahan case charge sheet, a comment which he has denied.

A Delhi daily reported that Sinha has said that UPA government would have been happy had the encounter charge sheet mentioned close aide of BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Amit Shah as the accused.

Shah was questioned twice in connection with the fake encounter by the agency but he was not named in the charge sheet as accused.

"There were political expectations... The UPA government would have been very happy if we government would have been very happy if we had charged Amit Shah...But we went strictly by evidence and found there was no prosecutable evidence against Shah," Sinha was quoted by the English business newspaper as saying.

A CBI spokesperson issued a statement that he was quoted out of context and unfairly.
"Director CBI has been quoted unfairly and completely out of context. CBI is an impartial and an apolitical organisation. In the Ishrat Jahan case, CBI has done a fair investigation to the best of its ability," the statement said.

BJP, which has been accusing CBI of colluding with Congress, today used his reported remarks of the CBI chief to attack the Government.

"It is a very important statement coming from the Director CBI. There was no prosecutable evidence even three years ago in Sohrabuddin's case. The CBI obliged Congress-led UPA in its attempt to target the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP, the Chief Minister of Gujarat by charging and targeting Amit Shah," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.

We all know that Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin were murdered in cold blood by Gujarat Police and in both these cases there are no prosecutable evidences. Hundreds of such murders happen every year and in such a situation intelligent policeman always look at who is the beneficiary from this MURDER.
It is now obvious - Gujarat PC / Amit Shah / Modi / Mohan Bagwat…

Jossey, just keep political affiliation aside & think for a while..why in above encounter case only ISHRAT is innocent? what about other 3?..why Congress mum on others..fact is that there is clear intelligence input from UPA1 that these are fidayeens, IB cheif (ironically, he is a Muslim) till today endorses that and openly shown his displeasure on a political witch hunt on his juniors..moreover, all intelligence agencies (except our HM Shendi) says that 2 of ISHRAT accomplices are Pakistanis whose body nobody claimed!! as per human right watch, most of fake encounters taking place in northeastern states where since independence only Congress is ruling!!...unfortunate that the dirty political game & propaganda politics spreading hatred among communities..

We have been consistently telling CBI is the sister organization of Corrupt party. This is well known truth to everyone. Today it has been justified by CBI personal only.

The corrupt lady and team tried their WORST METHODS to convict Modi and BJP in 2002 riots. I don't think this lady and team getting sleep these days during the night, not because of their 70 plus age, but because of JEALOUSY.

The more you feel jealous about others, the more health issues you get.

Just imagine, if MODI uses CBI as avenge on congress people, will there be any congis left un-arrested in this country?

Power is temporary, use it to serve the people, not to revenge opposition parties.

..one who dislike my comments should know that in June 2013, the Intelligence Bureau chief Asif Ibrahim told the office of Prime Minister and Home Minister of India that the Bureau had enough evidence to prove that Ishrat was a part of an LeT module which planned to kill Narendra Modi and Lal Krishna Advani..
