Five killed in Uttar Pradesh road accident

Lucknow, Feb 13 (IANS): Five people were killed and three others injured when a speeding truck rammed into a passenger vehicle in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh Thursday, police said.

The accident happened in the heart of the city. The passenger vehicle was overloaded with people at the time of the accident.

The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital while the bodies of the victims were sent for autopsy.

Three people who died were from the state's Jhansi district, while another was from the state of Haryana. The identity of the fifth deceased had not yet been established.

Angry people later blocked the road protesting the incident and alleged that police in connivance with truck drivers allowed heavy load-bearing vehicles to ply through the city despite a ban.

Kasganj is 300 km from state capital Lucknow.
