Kashmir's ex-minister to appear before police in sex case

Srinagar, Feb 13 (IANS): Shabir Ahmad Khan, a former minister accused by a woman doctor of sexual harassment, arrived in Srinagar Thursday to present himself before the police.

Khan told reporters at Srinagar airport that he is innocent and would follow the orders of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and cooperate with the investigation.

The high court Wednesday directed the former minister to appear at the concerned police station Thursday.

A First Information Report was registered against him at the Shaheed Ganj police station Feb 6 following a direction from the chief judicial magistrate of Srinagar.

The court also said if police arrest Khan, he should be bailed out after furnishing a personal bond of Rs.25,000.

The anticipatory bail application of Khan would be taken up for hearing by the high court Feb 18.

A Srinagar doctor has alleged that Khan attempted to sexually assault her when she met him at his office Jan 28.

Khan resigned from the post of minister of state for health Feb 7.
