LG vetoes Lokpal bill, AAP won't give up

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS): Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung has told the Delhi assembly not to consider the Jan Lokpal bill as he has not okayed it but the AAP said it was determined to go ahead with the bill.

"Since the bill is not approved by me, it may not be considered for discussion," informed sources told IANS, reading out from the letter sent to assembly Speaker M.S. Dhir.

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, however, said the AAP government would not drop the Jan Lokpal bill that seeks to curb corruption in high places.

"The letter has been sent to the speaker. Once he reads it in the assembly, then we will decide what has to be done," Sisodia told reporters outside the Delhi Secretariat.

He said the government would go to any extent to pass the bill and also the Swaraj bill, which seeks to devolve power of governance to people in the form of "mohalla sabhas".

The government planned to table the Jan Lokpal bill Thursday but deferred it for a day as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he wanted legislators to go through the draft legislation.

Kejriwal has threatened to resign if the bill gets defeated in the Delhi assembly.
