Six killed, 37 injured in Kashmir accident


Jammu, Feb 16 (IANS): Six people were killed and 37 others injured Sunday when an overloaded mini bus fell into a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

A police officer told IANS that the mini bus was going from Ramban to Banihal, when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Battery Chashma, 160 km from here.

Six passengers died on the spot.

A rescue operation was launched and the injured passengers were taken to hospital. Some passengers with serious injuries were airlifted to Jammu for specialised treatment.

Traffic on the highway was halted for several hours till the rescue operation was completed.
