Two former Pakistan PMs appear in court


Islamabad, Feb 18 (IANS): Two former Pakistan prime ministers, Yousuf Raza Gilani and Pervez Ashraf, appeared before an accountability court here Tuesday in a graft case.

The court adjourned the hearing until March 5, Dawn online reported.

The case is related to the controversial appointment of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's former chairman Tauqeer Sadiq.

During the hearing, Gilani's counsel submitted an exemption application on security concerns, which was accepted.

On Jan 24, the National Accountability Bureau, the apex anti-corruption organisation in Pakistan, filed a reference over the appointment of Tauqeer Sadiq as chairman against the two former prime ministers of the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government in the court.

The bureau also filed a supplementary reference in the court in a case pertaining to Pakistani Rs.82 billion corruption committed in the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
