Army officer killed in Pakistan militant attack


Islamabad, Feb 18 (IANS): A day after peace negotiations between the government and Pakistani Taliban broke down, a senior Pakistani army officer was Tuesday killed in an exchange of fire with militants, the military said.

"(The) exchange of fire continues," Dawn online quoted the Inter Services Public Relations as saying in a statement, adding that the attack took place near Frontier Region Peshawar close to the Afghan border.

Major Jahanzaib suffered bullet injuries and succumbed to his wounds, the military's media wing said, adding that three militants were also killed in the exhcnage of fire.
