Youth shot dead in Kashmir's Sopore


Srinagar, Feb 21 (IANS): A youth was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town Friday evening, police said.

Waseem Ahmad Malla, 24, was shot outside a mosque in Bagh-e-Islam area of the north Kashmir town, 54 km from Srinagar, a senior police officer here told IANS.

"The youth was fired at from close range. He was immediately taken to hospital, but succumbed to the critical bullet injuries," said the officer.

Police, which filed a case and began a probe, are still to establish the identity of the attackers.

No guerrilla group has so far owned responsibility for the youth's murder.
