Matthew McConaughey takes home best actor Oscar


Los Angeles, March 3 (IANS): Matthew McConaughey received Oscar for the best actor in a leading role for playing an AIDS patient in 'Dallas Buyers Club'. The award ceremony was held here Sunday.

The actor, best known for playing romantic characters on the big screen, had lost almost 25 kg to play AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in the film.

He earlier said that he took up the role to "shake up" his relationship with his "career".

He was accompanied by his mother and wife to the award function. Not only this is his first Oscar, but it is also his maiden nomination.

In his speech, the 44-year-old said he looked up to God and forward to his family.
