Two security personnel killed in Pakistan blast

Islamabad, March 3 (IANS): At least two security personnel were killed and four injured when a bomb exploded near an army vehicle in Pakistan's northwest tribal region of Khyber Agency Monday, official sources said.

Inter Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement that an improvised explosive device went off when a Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle was passing through Landi Kotal area of Khyber Agency, a militant-dominated area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Xinhua reported.

The injured people have been shifted to a nearby hospital. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

The blast happened one day after the Pakistan government agreed to halt targeted air raids at militants' hideouts, following a one-month ceasefire announcement by the banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Saturday.

Shortly after the blast, TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid said that his group did not attack the FC vehicle as there was no point in such activities after the ceasefire announcement.
