Mountain Echoes festival to begin May 21


Thimphu, March 3 (IANS): The fifth edition of the Mountain Echoes festival will be held between May 21-24 here, the organisers said Monday.

An initiative of the India-Bhutan Foundation in association with Siyahi, the festival intends to share the rich culture and the myths, legends and folklore of the Himalayan region.

Bhutan's queen mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk is the chief royal patron of the festival.

The list of speakers in this edition includes former diplomat and novelist Pavan Varma, authors Anuja Chauhan, Namita Gokhale, Advaita Kala, Bhutanese blogger Passang Passu Tshering and anthropologist Dolma Choden Roder.

The festival is the brainchild of programme directors Namita Gokhale, Pramod Kumar K.G., Siok Sian Dorji and Kunzang Choden.

It will be held at the Tarayana Foundation, Nehru Wangchuck Centre and Taj Tashi in Thimphu.
