Four terrorists surrender in Tripura

Agartala, March 8 (IANS): Four terrorists, who had fled from their hideouts in Bangladesh, have surrendered to the security forces in Tripura, police said here Saturday.

"Four NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) militants separately surrendered to the security forces at Kanchanpur in northern Tripura Friday evening. They have deposited their arms and ammunition," a police spokesman told reporters.

The militants also deposited a huge amount of Bangladeshi currency and some incriminating documents.

They are being interrogated by senior police and intelligence officials.

The union home ministry had banned the NLFT and another extremist outfit, All Tripura Tiger Force in 1997.

According to police and Border Security Force officials, the two outfits have set up camps in Bangladesh along with others and receive support from separatist groups of the region.

They have been seeking secession of Tripura from India.

Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh, some of it unfenced and running through dense forests, making it porous and vulnerable.
