New Delhi, Mar 8 (Agencies) Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav’s face was smeared with black ink by an unidentified man during Women’s Day celebrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday.
“I could not see who the person was. He came from behind and blackened my face while shouting slogans. Similar attacks on AAP leaders have happened in the past. When you set out to take on big names in politics, you should be ready to pay the price. We will not retaliate,” Yogendra Yadav said as he requested his supporters to remain calm.
Yadav was speaking to media persons at the gathering when the incident happened. The man who smeared ink on Yadav’s face could not be rounded up immediately.
The episode came days after AAP workers' protest outside the BJP headquarters following detention of their leader Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat turned violent and became a pitched battle between members of the two parties.
Senior AAP leaders Ashutosh and Shazia Ilmi were later taken by police for questioning after they were named in an FIR and accused of instigating violence outside the BJP headquarters.
