Workshops to raise voting awareness among women

New Delhi, March 8 (IANS): In a bid to raise the voting awareness among women, the Election Commission Saturday organised various camps, cultural programmes and workshops in the national capital.

Special registration camps, work shops, electorate enrollment programmes and rallies were organised in more than 200 locations here.

"It has been decided to use the occasion of the International Women's Day as an opportunity to organise women specific activities to increase the participation of women in the electoral process," Chief Nodal Officer Ankur Garg told the media at one of the centres.

The emphasis is being given "in areas where low turn out of women has been observed within the assembly constituencies in the last Delhi assembly elections".

To ensure wider publicity, the events were organised at various women colleges, institutions, metro stations, polling stations and gender resource centres.

Some of the locations were the Mata Sundri College for Women and the Indraprastha College for Women.
