LS polls: Raj Thackeray to support Modi for PM's post

Mumbai, Mar 9 (PTI): In a significant political move, MNS chief Raj Thackeray today announced candidates for the Lok Sabha polls and also declared his party's support for BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.

"We will contest the Lok Sabha elections. I will show my party's strength during the elections. We will support Narendra Modi for the PM's post. Modi should become the Prime Minister of the country," said Raj addressing his party workers on the eighth foundation day of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) at the Shanmukhananda hall here.

BJP has also welcomed the move by the MNS.

The announcement by Raj comes days after former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari had met him at a five-star hotel, requesting him not to field candidates for the general elections.

Gadkari had asked the MNS chief not to field his nominees to avoid division in vote against Congress.

Raj today announced names of seven MNS candidates who would be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The seven nominees of MNS declared are - MLA Bala Nandgaonkar, close confidante of Raj who will contest from Mumbai South seat, Aditya Shirodkar (Mumbai South Central), actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar (Mumbai North-West), Raju Patil (Kalyan-Dombivli), Ashok Khandebharad (Shirur), Dr Pradeep Pawar (Nashik) and Deepak Paigude from Pune.

Notably, not only Gadkari, but even his close aides Ashish Shelar and Vinod Tawde had met Raj at his residence Krushna Kunj on Friday.

The MNS chief has said that he would soon inform about his first public rally, where he would reply to all the criticism he faced in the last few days (apparently over his meeting with Gadkari)

The Shiv Sena is on the decline with the demise of Mr.Balasaheb Thackeray. Uddhav totally lacks charisma and the leadership qualities of his Father. On the other hand Raj Thackeray though a bit charismatic does not have the same mass appeal as the late Balasaheb. The fighting cousins will only benefit the Congress-NCP combine. Moreover, the anti-North Indian attitude of both the Senas will only favour the Congress-NCP fortunes.
This alliance by the BJP with the Senas will not be electorally beneficial for the BJP.

MNS is strong in the mentioned seats - in the LS 2009 they contested & came second in 4 seats & overall got 27% vote share. Congress won in all 4! This is significant & could mar chances of Sena - BJP - Hence Gadkari nows wants the anti-congress votes to split between Sena-BJP & MNS...Ideally MNS should be in NDA & oppose UPA II & Congress-NCP alliance in Maha

Raj is not a desh Bhakth, he is the one against the north Indians, especially from UP, Bihar. Modi will lose the seats from UP and Bihar. Now Shiv Sena will go against the BJP and plan to tie up with Advani,Sushma and Jaitley to get rid the dictator
